Sound Junkee since I was a kid…
Back in the day, I had my trusty stereo cassette deck set up right on my bedroom desk, complete with a dodgy microphone that barely did the job. I’d rope in my friends for “interviews” and record every word with the utmost seriousness, only to cut it all together with songs I’d snagged off the radio. And yes, those classic, clunky edits were a big part of the charm – abrupt endings, missing intros, and all.
I still have those tapes, now lovingly digitized into MP3s. Every now and then, I’ll hit play and get transported back, cringing and laughing at my younger self trying to be the next big DJ. Those tapes might be rough, but they’re a reminder of where it all started – a testament to my lifelong love for sound and storytelling.
Little did I know…
I was unknowingly setting myself up for a lifelong love affair with all things audio.
Right after high school, I landed a work experience gig at a radio station. I was instantly hooked! The energy, the creativity, the rush of bringing sound to life – I was in my element. I threw myself into every opportunity, determined to soak up everything radio had to offer. I dabbled in commercial writing, took on on-air shifts, helped with music programming, and honed my skills in voiceover work, eager to master every part of the process.
But no matter how many roles I explored, my first and forever love was always audio production. There was something magical about building layers of sound, crafting the perfect mix, and turning ideas into immersive audio experiences. That passion has stayed with me through every twist and turn, fueling my dedication to deliver high-quality sound at every stage of my career.
30+ years later…
I have a lifetime of experience working with audio making music and radio imaging.
Thanks to that pandemic thing (remember that?) I’ve made the move from a state of the art recording studio to where I am now, working from home on a laptop 24/7. I’m on a constant search for new techniques, tricks, gear, software, workflows. It never ends! But I’m just addicted!
